Somehow, While Building a Life and Career, I Missed the Fact that the Medical Field Lost Its Mind - the Insanity of Being Sick

Dear North-Med Medical Community,

Um. For most of the day, we hung on to the repeated message that stated that services have changed and nothing is more important to you than the health of your customers. Between all of us, we probably waited two-to-three hours to get, if we were lucky, an operator who would tell us they would try to get us through, but then we would get through and they'd hang up on us. This is the way you care for patients in the 21st century - you leave them on their own, you put them into phone rooms, and you leave superficial messages that you care.

I get that during COVID you require patients to stay put and are offering equipment so that such patients can do self care from home. I get that Fed Ex delivers the equipment and that one needs assistance (online with a nurse) to run through the programs to check vitals so they are sent to the facilities that need them.

Although she kicked and screamed, pissed that we even took the evening call, it all worked out for the best and we got things set up (even if you raised her blood pressure in the process). We are all set. After 5 attempts, medication, and some hot Zen Yoga, she was calm enough to do all the vitals so they could be sent back to you (and the nurse on staff).

Such is the way that the Internet and phone services go, so be it the way of the medical field. It's a matter of time before families will have to hook up with health care in India and the Philippines - hello. I am your health care worker. Thank you for calling. How can I be of service to you tonight - and there will not be in-person health care. We can just hook up to the Apps and let medical professionals check on their patients from the luxury of their hot-tubs and winter cottages.

Seriously, I get extra-aggravated whenever I need to problem solve and end up in the quagmire of phone messages, waiting, and no one who has a clue. I can only imagine what it feels like to be elderly, in this "modern" age, and trying to get medical issues resolved.

It's just insane. This care is opposite. It's un-caring....

Is this really our future? I guess so. God Bless anyone who is ill, sick, or in need of medical attention. The world's gone crazy.
